Biography
A life between places.
Liliana Antonik Shawky is a Polish writer whose stories are shaped by family, culture and a deep attachment to place.
Her writing grows from everyday life: the rhythm of a household, the conversations around a shared table, the small gestures through which people show love. She is drawn to characters who find courage quietly, and to the moments when an ordinary day changes the direction of a life.
Writing has long been her way of understanding the world. Before it became a book, it was notes, letters and observations collected over many years — fragments of people and places she wanted to remember.
Her debut book, Dom nad Nilem, is set in Cairo on the banks of the Nile. It follows Aya Hassan, a fifteen-year-old girl growing up in Cairo in 1984, who dreams of studying in Poland.

The story behind Dom nad Nilem
Dom nad Nilem follows Aya Hassan, a fifteen-year-old Muslim girl growing up in a modest house by the Nile in 1984 Cairo. Her greatest dream is to study in Poland — and her friendship with Miriam, a Coptic Christian, shows that kindness can be stronger than division. It is a story of family, faith, friendship, growing up and the courage to reach for your own dreams.
